BUSINESSMAN SENTENCED FOR MAKING ILLEGAL CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS IN FEDERAL ELECTIONS

The owner of St. Ann Hospice in Glendale who was convicted last year of making “conduit contributions” to several federal election campaigns through employees and family members, has been sentenced to one year and a day in federal prison.

Gladwin Gill, of Covina, was sentenced Monday afternoon by United States District Judge Christine A. Snyder.

Last March, Gill pleaded guilty to making $66,700 in “conduit contributions” to several election campaigns from 2003 until 2005.  The illegal contributions are called conduit contributions because the person who makes the “contribution” is reimbursed, thus serving as a conduit for the real contributor. 

According to the court documents, Gill asked or instructed various friends and some employees of his company to make monetary contributions to a political committee which supported the re-election of the President and Vice-President of the United Sates, a political committee supporting a candidate for the United States Senate, a political committee supporting a candidate for the United States House of Representatives, and a political committee supporting the re-election of a United States Senator.
