anchorage woman sentenced to five years in federal prison for cocaine conspiracy

Anchorage, Alaska – Acting United States Attorney Frank V. Russo announced that an Anchorage woman was sentenced in federal court in Anchorage, to 60 months in prison for conspiring to possess and distribute cocaine in Alaska.

On November 22, 2011, Liza Mariah Young, formerly known as Liza Mariah Valcarcel, 38, a resident of Anchorage, Alaska, was sentenced by United States District Judge Timothy M. Burgess.

According to federal prosecutors, Young admitted having made arrangements in 2010, for the shipment of over two kilograms of cocaine from California to her in Anchorage, where she received the cocaine. Young also agreed to the forfeiture of two loaded shotguns that were seized from her residence in Anchorage during the investigation.

In fashioning a sentence, Judge Burgess noted the serious nature of Young’s crime, and took into account the fact that Young did not have a serious criminal history.

Mr. Russo commended DEA and its Drug Interdiction Task Force for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Young.
