Anchorage, Alaska – United States Attorney Karen L. Loeffler announced today that a California woman was sentenced in federal court in Anchorage to 72 months in federal prison for her conviction of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute oxycodone.

On July 19, 2011, Renee Louise Davis, 44, a resident of Sacramento, California, was sentenced by United States District Judge Timothy M. Burgess. The court further imposed a five year period of supervised release.

According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Jack S. Schmidt, Davis was contacted at the Seattle-Tacoma airport en route from Sacramento, California to Juneau, Alaska with 550-80 mg pills of oxycodone secreted in her internal body cavities for subsequent distribution in Juneau.

Prior to imposing sentence, Judge Burgess stated that the defendant possessed of a large amount of oxycodone which made it an extremely serious offense, and the sentence imposed by the court was sufficient to deter the defendant and others, and to protect the public.

Ms. Loeffler commended the DEA – High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force Section D-22, The Port of Seattle Police Department, and the Juneau Metro Drug Unit who conducted the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Davis.
