Anchorage drug dealer sentenced to five years in federal prison for drug trafficking

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 5, 2011

Anchorage, Alaska – United States Attorney Karen L. Loeffler announced today that an Anchorage man was sentenced in federal court in Anchorage to 60 months in federal prison for his conviction of distribution of a controlled substance.

On December 1, 2011, Lamson Soneoulay, 25, a resident of Anchorage, Alaska, was sentenced by Senior United States District Judge H. Russel Holland.

According to Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Erin White, who prosecuted the case, Soneoulay sold 6.6 grams of pure methamphetamine to a buyer in Anchorage for $960 in cash. Soneoulay has two previous convictions in the State of Alaska Court System for misconduct involving a controlled substance in the sixth degree. Both of Soneoulay’s previous drug convictions involved the possession of marijuana.

In fashioning a sentence, Judge Holland noted the serious nature of Soneoulay’s crime, due to the amount of methamphetamine that he sold. Packages of similar weight are usually re-distributed and sold to other purchasers of illegal substances. The Court also noted the fact that Soneoulay’s previous drug convictions had not sufficiently deterred him from drug trafficking.

Ms. Loeffler commended the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and the Anchorage Police Department for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Soneoulay. Ms.White is a prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office who is funded by the Municipality of Anchorage for the purpose of prosecuting gang-related and violent crime cases.
