Anchorage man Convicted of Drug Trafficking Conspiracy

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 10, 2010

Anchorage, Alaska – United States Attorney Karen L. Loeffler announced that after deliberating two hours, a federal jury in Anchorage found Sedric O. Williams, of Anchorage, Alaska, guilty of one count of drug trafficking conspiracy and one count of attempting to possess cocaine base (crack), heroin and MDMA, or ecstacy, with the intent to distribute.

Williams was tried before United States District Court Judge Timothy M. Burgess in Anchorage.

According to Assistant United States Attorney Craig M. Warner, who prosecuted the case, the evidence presented at trial established that Williams was apprehended after being identified by law enforcement as one of the intended recipients of a Federal Express parcel containing heroin, ecstacy, and more than 5 grams of cocaine base. The package was intercepted by a Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force, and the narcotics were replaced with fake narcotics before delivery. Evidence at the scene of the delivery indicated that Williams took possession of plastic bags that had contained the drugs in the minutes following the package's arrival.

Judge Burgess scheduled sentencing for June 4, 2010 at 2:30 pm. The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 40 years in prison, a fine of $2,000,000, or both.

The Drug Enforcement Administration, including DEA Task Force members deputized from the Anchorage Police Department and the Alaska State Troopers, conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Williams.
