Anchorage Felon Pleads Guilty to Illegal Possession of A Firearm

Anchorage, Alaska – United States Attorney Karen L. Loeffler announced today, March 18, 2010, that Christopher Thomas Mejia of Anchorage, Alaska, pled guilty in federal court in Anchorage to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Mejia, age 21, pled guilty in front of United States District Court Judge John W. Sedwick.

According to Assistant United States Attorney Yvonne Lamoureux, who prosecuted the case, Mejia, a convicted felon, possessed a firearm in September 2009. Judge Sedwick scheduled sentencing for Mejia on June 10, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. The law provides for a maximum of ten years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history of the defendant.

The Anchorage Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Mejia.
