Former Union President Sentenced to 18 Months Probation For Making A False Representaiton In A Federal Form

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 24, 2010

Anchorage, Alaska – Acting United States Attorney Kevin Feldis announced that on June 23, 2010, Kevin McGee of Anchorage, Alaska, was sentenced in federal court in Anchorage to eighteen months probation with thirty days of home confinement, and a $2,400 fine in addition to paying restitution, for his conviction of making a false representation in a federal form to cover his receipt of double reimbursement of travel funds.

United States District Court Judge Timothy M. Burgess imposed the sentence on McGee, age 55.

Paragraph Three.

According to documents filed in the case, Kevin McGee was President of the American Federation of Government Employees, Local Union 3028, when he filed a report with the Department of Labor, falsely representing that there had been no financial loss to the organization when, in fact, he did cause a loss to the Union when he fraudulently sought and received double reimbursement for travel expenses.

Prior to imposing the sentence, Judge Burgess stated that it was an abuse of trust for McGee, the union president, to take the unauthorized funds and then cover up the conduct by falsely filing the form with the Department of Labor.

Mr. Feldis commended the Department of Labor, Office of Labor Management Standards, working with the Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General, for the investigation that led to the successful prosecution of McGee.
