Anchorage, Alaska – United States Attorney Karen L. Loeffler announced that on August 4, 2010, Ishmael Schmidt, a resident of Anchorage, Alaska, was sentenced in federal court in Anchorage to 100 months imprisonment for his conviction of distribution of crack cocaine, attempted distribution of crack cocaine, and possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, as well as possession of firearm during a drug-trafficking offense.

United States District Judge John W. Sedwick imposed the sentence on Schmidt, 26.

According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Bryan Schroder, Schmidt sold crack cocaine on three occasions, and on one occasion made the arrangements to sell crack cocaine, but refused to provide the cocaine due to a dispute over money. During one of the sales, Schmidt had a semi-automatic handgun in his possession.

Prior to imposing sentence, Judge Sedwick recognized that all of society is a victim when drug dealers distribute substances that “poison the populace.”

Ms. Loeffler commended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and Homeland Security Investigations for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Schmidt.
