United States Attorney Jeffrey G. Collins announced that Roger Phillip Saad, a resident of Dryden Township, Michigan, was apprehended on May 6, 2004, by the Dryden Township Police Department, in conjunction with the United States Marshal's Service and the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigations Division, after being a fugitive for approximately eight years. Saad was indicted by a federal grand jury in Detroit, Michigan on April 6, 1993, he was charged with four counts of income tax evasion in violation of Title 26, U.S.C. §7201, and four counts of failure to file individual income tax returns in violation of Title 26, U.S.C. §7203.

After a jury trial, Saad was found guilty of all charges. On September 9, 1996, United States District Court Senior Judge John Feikens, sentenced Saad to 21 months imprisonment for each count of income tax evasion and 12 months imprisonment for each count of failure to file a tax return, all sentences were to run concurrently. At the conclusion of sentencing, Saad was ordered to report to a federal correctional facility designated by the United States Bureau of Prisons. Saad failed to appear as ordered. On December 11, 1996, Saad's bond was canceled and a warrant for his arrest, for failure to appear at the designated correctional facility, was issued. 

In August of 2003, special agents of the Internal Revenue Service, CID, received information that Saad was residing at 4563 West Harrison Road, Alma, Michigan. Special Agents of the United States Marshal's Service and the IRS established surveillance of the residence and contacted local authorities to advise them that Saad was in the area and was wanted by the IRS as a fugitive.

In April 2003, a special agent of the IRS, CID received information that Saad's wife would visit 4563 West Harrison Road. IRS agents established surveillance of Carol Saad and followed her to a residence located at 5717 General Squire Road, Dryden Township, MI. 

On May 6, 2004, Saad was spotted mowing the lawn at 5717 General Squire Road, he was approached by the Police Chief Pack and questioned regarding his identity. At that time, Saad indicated his name was Bill Sloacki. Chief Pack then returned to his vehicle and requested assistance from the Almont Police Department, as Saad departed the residence he was stopped by an officer of the Almont Police Department. Saad initially indicated his name was Bill Sloacki, however, after further questioning, Saad admitted he was Roger Saad and was arrested without incident.

Mr. Collins commended Special Agents of the U.S. Marshal's Service, Special Agents , of the Internal Revenue Service, CID, Chief Larry Pack, of the Dryden Township Police Department, Officer John Morse, of the Almont Police Department, Sgt. Bob Wells, of the Oakland County Sheriff's Department, and Officers of the Michigan State Police Department for their investigation of this case which led to the successful apprehension of Roger P. Saad.
