RENO - - A
tax preparer was indicted today by the Federal Grand Jury on 35
felony counts of Aiding and Assisting in the Preparation of a False
Income Tax Return, announced Daniel G. Bogden, United States Attorney
for the District of Nevada.
According to the Indictment, between February 1998 and July 2002,
ISIDRO ALEJANDREZ, a resident of Reno, Nevada, prepared tax returns
for 11 clients which were false and fraudulent, in that they represented
that the clients were entitled to claim a certain filing status,
earned income credits, dependents as exemptions, and child tax credits,
when the defendant knew and believed that the clients were not entitled
to such.
If convicted, ALEJANDREZ faces up to three years in prison and a
fine of not more than $250,000 on each count. ALEJANDREZ was summoned
to appear in court for an initial appearance hearing and arraignment
on Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at 3:00 p.m. before United States Magistrate
Judge Valerie Cooke.
The public is reminded that an Indictment contains only charges
and is not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent
and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government has the
burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case was investigated by Special Agents with IRS Criminal Investigation,
and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brian
L. Sullivan
