JUSTICE DEPARTMENT SEEKS TO BAR TWO CONNECTICUT RESIDENTS FROM PREPARING FEDERAL TAX RETURNS FOR OTHERS

Complaint Alleges that Tax Preparers Inflated Deductions and Credits for Customers

WASHINGTON – The United States has brought suit against Deowraj Buddhu and his daughter, Sunita Buddhu, seeking to bar them from preparing federal tax returns for others, the Justice Department announced today.

The government alleges in its complaint that the father and daughter have operated businesses that provide tax return preparation services under the names Paradise Consulting, Phoenix Consulting and Lotus Consulting, in Hartford and Wethersfield, Conn. The complaint further alleges that the Buddhus have prepared federal income tax returns and amended federal income tax returns containing incorrect filing statuses and exemptions and inflated deductions for their customers resulting in understatements of their customers’ tax liabilities.

The government’s complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut, alleges that the Buddhus’ conduct interferes with the enforcement of the internal revenue laws and causes irreparable harm to the government and their customers.

Deowraj Buddhu is currently incarcerated in the Willard Cybulski Correctional Institution in Enfield, Conn., after pleading guilty to ten misdemeanor counts of larceny, forgery and conspiracy for selling fake documents to illegal immigrants.
