1 Office of Justice Programs (OJP) 15_0402: 1) On 5/21/09 the Deputy Attorney General announced that OJJDP made awards, totaling $41,495,993, to 59 Internet Crimes Against Children Task Forces. 2) Out of the 109 VOCA formula awards, 94 have been accepted by the grantees. 3) Peer review for the OVC discretionary field initiated solicitation finished on 5/19/09. 4) On 5/20/09 OJP hosted a meeting with the OIG, OVW and COPS to discuss Recovery Act performance measures for programs that do not result in direct job creation or retention. 5) On May 19, 2009, OJP made 55 Byrne/JAG awards: 12 State JAG awards (12 State JAG press releases were sent this afternoon) and 43 local JAG awards. 6) The two competitive National Institute of Justice (NIJ) solicitations closed on 5/19/09: Evaluation of Internet Child Safety Materials Used by ICAC Task Forces in School and Community Settings (7 applications) and Research and Evaluation of Recovery Act State and Local Law Enforcement Assistance (17 applications). 7) The Recovery Act Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Formula Program: Local Solicitation deadline OJP 15_0402: 1) Peer review continues for the 3,439 BJA discretionary applications. OJP will handle approximately 131 peer review consensus calls over the next four weeks. BJA has trained four volunteer SAMHSA employees, who will handle a large number of the consensus calls. 2) The peer review scores for the BJA Southern Border solicitation will be finalized on June 4. 3) State and Local Byrne/JAG awards will continue on a rolling basis.
2 OJP 15_0402 (continued): was extended. The new application deadline is 8:00 p.m. ET on June 17, 2009. Along with announcing the extension, OJP also included this explanation on the websites: The Bureau of Justice Assistance, a component of the Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs (OJP), established the previous deadline of May 18 to encourage early submission of applications in an effort to provide economic stimulus as soon as possible. Because this is a non-competitive formula grant program, the extension of this deadline does not impact either eligibility or funding determinations. 8) On 5/18/09, a Congressional Affairs Specialist participated in a Recovery Act Grants Workshop in Trenton, NJ at the request of Senators Robert Menendez and Frank Lautenberg. 9) The eight vendors, who submitted proposals in response to the Accounting and Management Grant Support RFQ, provided oral presentations to the review board on 5/18 and 5/19/09.  
3 Office of Violence Against Women (OVW) 15_0411: 1) OVW announced 44 STOP Formula awards totaling $111,616,187. OVW 15_0411: OVW will continue to process awards for the State Coalitions, Tribal Coalitions and Tribal Governments grant programs. Awards will be made on a rolling basis throughout the summer.
4 Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) 15_0412: 1) The COPS Office met with the Associate Attorney General on May 18th to discuss the status of awarding CHRP funding and the funding methodology. 2) The initial CHRP application scoring/ranking analysis was completed. 3) The COPS Office sent a letter via e-mail to all pending CHRP applicants that included a summary of CHRP actions to date and activities that still need to be completed. 4) The COPS Office sent an e-mail to all agencies whose application data was changed during the data verification and validation review stage. 5) The COPS Office sent letters to cities within California that contract with sheriffs for law enforcement services with additional information regarding eligibility for CHRP. 6) The COPS Office provided additional information regarding CHRP to OMB’s Recovery Act Implementation Office. 7) Acting Director Tim Quinn participated in a joint webcast on Tuesday, May 19th with the National Crime Prevention Council and National League of Cities regarding the CHRP grants process. COPS 15_0412: 1) COPS staff will meet with the Associate Attorney General to finalize award methodology. 2) In-depth application and budget review will begin for those agencies that are likely to be funded. 3) The External Affairs Division will begin sending responses to the more than 400 congressional letters of support for pending CHRP applications.
5 COPS 15_0412 (continued): 8) COPS Staff participated in the Safe Silver Spring Summit, which was sponsored by the Presidents’ Council of Silver Spring Civic Associations. Attendees included congressional staff, county administrators, state representatives and community leaders, who were interested to learn more about the CHRP grant process and local crime prevention strategies.  
6 Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) 15_0699: No major completed actions to report ATF 15_0699: 1) ATF will execute a reimbursable agreement in the amount of $225,000 with the Federal Law Enforcement Training Academy for costs associated with the training for special agents and Industry operations investigators.
