The HIDTA counties in the South Texas High Intensity Drug Trafficking area are: Bexar, Val Verde, Kinney, Maverick, Zavala, Dimmit, La Salle, Webb, Zapata, Jim Hogg, Starr, Hidalgo, Willacy, and Cameron.

Ports of Entry are located at Del Rio in Val Verde County; Eagle Pass in Maverick County; Laredo in Webb County; Roma and Rio Grande City in Starr County; Los Ebanos Ferry, Hidalgo, and Progreso in Hidalgo County; and Los Indios and Brownsville in Cameron County.

Checkpoints are the Laredo checkpoint in Webb County and the Falfurrias and Sarita checkpoints located north of the southernmost HIDTA counties in the South Texas Region.

Cities with populations of over 250,000 are Austin, San Antonio, and Corpus Christi. Cities with populations of 100,000-249,999 are Laredo, McAllen, and Brownsville. There are no major cities with 75,000-99,999 people.

San Antonio and Corpus Christi are the International Airports.

Corpus Christi is a major seaport.

Ports of Entry are located at Del Rio in Val Verde County; Eagle Pass in Maverick County; Laredo in Webb County; Roma and Rio Grande City in Starr County; Los Ebanos Ferry, Hidalgo, and Progreso in Hidalgo County; and Los Indios and Brownsville in Cameron County.

The Checkpoints are Laredo, located on Interstate 35; Falfurrias,  located on U.S. Highway 281; and Sarita located on U.S. Highway 77.

The interstates shown within this region are I-10, I-35, and I-37.

The U.S. highways shown are routes 57, 59, 77, 83, 90, and 281.

The State highway shown is route 16.

The Mexican highways shown are routes 57, which crosses the border at Eagle Pass and feeds into U.S. Highway 57; 85, which crosses the border at Laredo and feeds into Interstate 35 and U.S. Highway 59; 180 which crosses the border at Brownsville  and feeds into U.S. Highways 77 and 281.

Lakes on the U.S.-Mexico border are Lake Amistad in Val Verde County and Falcon Lake in Zapata County. Mansfield Channel is at the north end of South Padre Island in the Padre National Seashore.
