DUNN LAMPTON, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi, announced that Cynthia Polk, age 48, of Liberty, Mississippi, was found guilty on an indictment charging Infringement of Copyright in United States District Court yesterday.
According to the proof at trial, Polk infringed the copyrights of various copyrighted works by distributing, through her video rental business, counterfeit videotapes of movies for commercial advantage and private financial gain.
The charge against Polk carries a maximum sentence of 5 years; a maximum fine of $250,000.00, and a period of supervised release of up to 3 years.
The sentencing hearing in this case is scheduled for February 4, 2002, before U.S. District Judge William H. Barbour, Jr.
