Kingston ACTIVITY REPORT OFFICE OF TRUST RECORDS April 1-30,2009 PROGRAMMATIC: • Labat-Anderson (Labat Indexing Project) Labat reported that indexing of 1,585 boxes of inactive Indian records was completed in April 2009. The total number of boxes completed through April 2009 is approximately 190,360. OTR anticipates termination ofthis contract with Labat on June 30, 2009. OTR will use federal employees to continue indexing records. • Movement of Records The Bureau oflndian Affairs (BIA) and Office ofthe Special Trustee (OST) moved 926 boxes of inactive records from various field locations to Lenexa, Kansas, for indexing and subsequent storage at the American Indian Records Repository (AIRR) during this reporting period. • Site Assessments Statement During the month of April, OTRA performed two records management assessments, one each at the following locations: NBC, Office of Appraisal Services, Midwest Region; and Red Lake Agency OST 11M field office. OTRA also performed six records management follow-up assessments, one each at the following locations: Minnesota Agency BrA office; Great Lakes Agency BTA office; Fort Yuma Agency BTA office; Mescalero Agency BIA office; Minnesota Agency OST IIM field office; and Great Lakes Agency OST IIM field office. OTRA issued one records management assessment report at the following location: NBC, Office of Appraisal Services, Midwest Region. OTRA issued eight records management follow-up reports, one each at the following locations: Yakama Agency BTA office; Horton Agency OST llM field office; Southwest Region BlA office; Horton Agency BrA office; Pawnee Agency OST IIM office; Fort Yuma Agency BIA office; Mescalero Agency BIA office; and Pawnee Agency BrA office. • Records Training Tn April 2009, OTR provided records management training for 52 BIAlOST records contacts and 26 Tribal employees. OTR provided training on vital records for 22 BIAlOST and 14 Tribal employees. I • Litigation Support and Research Requests OTR continued to provide significant support to the Office of the Solicitor, Office of Historical Trust Accounting and its contractors, the Department of Justice and its contractors, and tribal attorneys and contractors on behalf of various Tribes. OTR continued to receive requests for information regarding litigation­related document requests. Many of these requests have very short deadlines. During April 2009, AIRR staff provided responses to 153 non-litigation research requests from BrA, OST and other requesters. ADMINISTRATIVE: General administrative activities continued.
