Washington, D.C. Metro Rail System

The Land Acquisition Section handled cases on behalf of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Administration (WMATA) to acquire property needed for the construction of the Washington Metro Rail System. Congress authorized the initial funding for the transit system in 1969 with the National Capital Transportation Act. As the second largest rail system in the United States, WMATA serves a population of 3.5 million in a 1,500 square mile area of Maryland, D.C., and Virginia.
